10 Reasons Why We Love Roberto Martinez

Ever since Roberto Martinez took over in June of last year, our love for the gaffer has grown and grown. While some of us may have had our reservations to begin with, he soon proved us why he is the man to lead the Everton revolution.I thought we owed it to the super Spaniard to pay tribute to him!

So in no particular order:

  1.  His shoes.

Ok who doesn’t love those suave tan coloured loafers he wears regularly on match days? Quite frankly I think the megastore should start to sell them!

2. His accent.

His dulcet Spanish tones get me every time! It just adds to his whole charisma…Come on, who doesn’t love a nice sexy Spanish accent?!

3. He makes substitutions at least 10 minutes before Moyes did.

We all remember those dark days of yelling at our radio, tv or from the ground, begging Moyes to make a substitution and inject a fresh pair of legs into the play, but that is no more with our Roberto! He knows exactly when we need a change of play and makes no hesitation in doing so, he lives on the edge and will even introduce a double substitution! – Something Moyes wouldn’t even dream of!

4. He sold Fellaini to Manchester United for a whopping £27m.

If there’s anything Martinez deserves credit for, it’s off loading the unhappy afro head to the red devils. And for the handsome sum of £27million fat ones, that he expertly reinvested.

5. He helped us beat Man United at Old Trafford.

Bobby deserves a medal for finally ending our then 21 year taboo over at Old Trafford – with some help from our old ginger friend Moysey.

6. He’s made some cracking signings.

Gareth Barry, Gerry and Lukaku to name a few of incredible signings he has made since taking charge, they’ve made a huge impact in helping us climb the table.

7. He’s genuinely a nice guy!

He’s a daddy, a doting husband and all round nice guy! He is an absolute charismatic gent! His wife and him sit together but he puts his headphone in while she gets to watch her tele!

8. He doesn’t drink.

So we all like a good tipple, but not our Bobby, he is soberino! Which can only mean he is always focused and healthy, resulting in good stuff for our blue boys!

9. His motto – ‘Solo lo mejor’.

He signs off all programme notes with this phrase, which as we all as know translates to our beloved, ‘only the best’. The fact he has embraced our rich history gives him reason to be loved, which leads me to my next point…

10. He lined Finch Farm with past Everton heroes to inspire the squad.

At the top of the stairs is a blank canvas to encourage the players and incite them to be up on that wall! Everton’s history is a huge deal to us fans, (we just need to sing ‘And if you know your history…’), so because Martinez recognises this, he has taken it to the next level, earning him a lot of respect from us. He just needs to get an ‘1878’ tattoo and he’ll be sorted!

Phew!

Well there you have it!

My 10 Reasons Why We Love Roberto Martinez! I could go on and on, I really do have a huge amount of respect and admiration for this guy.

Let me know some of your reasons! Until next time Blues…

Yay or Nay-Smith?

Up until yesterday I can’t say I was a massive fan of Steven Naismith.

After his performance in yesterday’s FA Cup match however, my opinion has completely changed!

His goal was (excuse the cliché) cool, calm and collected! Many strikers would have sent that shot wide, but not our Naisy! As well as him winning the penalty which sealed the deal!

He has had so much stick from Rangers’ fans and a few Evertonians, but he was well within his rights to do what he did. He’s proved his worth, scoring 4 goals in the last 6 games and he makes a big difference these days when he comes on!

But bless him when he was knocked near unconscious yesterday, he ploughed on, until – and rightly so – he decided, yeah guys, that’s it!! The fact he didn’t remember his goal is a shame, but that he didn’t remember the game, ain’t such a bad thing!

I don’t really know where my previous poor opinion of him came from, I guess I was swayed by the boo’s around me! He was sloppy when he first started and I just felt he was out of his league, but he is really coming into his own and is proving to be a pretty great asset to Everton FC!

My usual groan when I see him on the team sheet, has now turned into a silent glimmer of hope for his goal scoring abilities, something we are seriously lacking at the mo!!

Thoughts guys? Yay or Nay-Smith?

If you’re undecided, take a look at the highlights below to see Naisy’s goal!!
